Diversity Program

The mission of BJC as it relates to Diversity is to promote leadership, coaching, and subject-matter expertise in its workforce. We will recruit, develop, train, and retain a diverse workforce of qualified professionals to meet our customer’s needs.

Diversity within Bechtel Jacobs Company means “inclusion” – in hiring, developing, promoting, and retaining employees of all races, ethnic groups, genders, religions, and ages, as well as individuals with disabilities. Our Diversity Programs promote inclusion in the Bechtel Jacobs Company workforce by honoring differences and similarities. Bechtel Jacobs Company will encourage each subcontractor to embrace our diversity philosophy and goals. The primary goals of the Bechtel Jacobs Company Plan are to:

  • Promote diversity in all aspects of the workforce
  • Establish an effective conflict resolution strategy
  • Develop subcontracting relationships with small, disadvantaged, women-owned and minority-owned business concerns
  • Implement outreach programs that will encourage partnerships with diverse stakeholders in the community
  • Work with minority educational institutions
  • Address environmental justice issues in conjunction with Environmental Safety & Health, Project Management and Regulatory Analysis

Managing diversity is a process. It is a process that requires ownership and participation among all levels of management and staff. Employees will be empowered to effect changes that will identify opportunities for growth and advancement. Although managers have the responsibility of hiring and promoting staff members within their functional organization, we are all responsible for creating a work environment where diversity is valued and embraced. The physical attributes of diversity are the areas where people tend to focus; however, the subtler qualities such as communication style play a key factor in the effectiveness of managing diversity.

This Diversity Plan contains major steps and programs that are being implemented to accomplish each of our primary goals. We developed this approach to build on the best practices of Lockheed Martin, Bechtel, and Jacobs to develop and implement a world-class Diversity Program that will be the basis by which we conduct business.
